With Tbar rows the trick is it get as much engaged range of motion possible. Allow for weight to stretch lats but keep tension throughout movement.
Single arm dumbbell rows are great to engage the trap on the concentric part of the movement and lat on eccentric. Pull weight directly upwards, align hand with ribcage.
